Time Management

This is a crazy time of the year for teachers and families and I'm excited to problem solve and figure out how to finish my million tasks in an efficient manner. I'm a list maker (I love crossing things off!) but I learned that lists don't do the best to prioritize what needs to be done.  I watched this great video that helped me really think about how to manage what comes across my desk and into my ears. I'm a socializer and I love my short little breaks in the office to visit with the school secretary or nurse; those are my mental health breaks! There are times when I want to socialize but I shouldn't, or I need to combine tasks like copies with getting a bandaid in the office as well as using the restroom and getting a fresh glass of water.

I took this (humbling) quiz about time management and it was honestly good. Like, so good I am really sitting back and thinking about how I need to plan out my end-of-year activities as well as my personal activities with my family and home. I scored the lowest (2 of 5 stars) in Procrastination. Ha! I knew that. I am surprised I didn't procrastinate while taking the quiz.  I scored the highest in Goal Setting and Scheduling which again makes sense because I am a sped teacher and have 40+ people and schedules to work around on a daily basis. I don't have a prep period and my only real break is my 30 minute lunch, so I need to fit a lot into a small amount of time.

A requirement for an online course I am taking is to identify areas and ways that I can better manage my time and to test out the new way for three days.  I'm going to try to tweak my lists (home and work) into the categories of Urgent and Important, Important but not Urgent, Urgent and not Important and not Urgent and not Important.  We shall see!

Ha, life intervened!

When I started this blog I was transitioning into survivorship after my breast cancer battle, a brand new home owner and starting to work in a brand new (to me) school building. I love how busy and normal-feeling life has been since I started.

In my second year at my current school, I now feel like I understand more of the school culture and climate. Non-sped kids recognize me out in public and non-sped kids. My son is a student at my school and I've taught over 50+ kids in these two short years here.  Lots of good things have happened since I last blogged!
